Dr. Blacklock views her primary role as a mentor for her students. She has developed a number of new courses in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology including a sophomore professional development course (Cornerstone in Chemistry) and a writing and mentoring intensive advanced course (Approaches in Chemical Biology). She believes that independent research is important for all students and provides opportunities through mentored research in her own laboratory, advising Honors and Capstone projects, and as a co-Director of the former NSF-funded IU Indianapolis Undergraduate Research and Mentoring program that provided research and professional development opportunities to students from under-represented groups.
