Dr. Meghan Barrett is an insect neuroethologist and physiologist using an interdisciplinary lens to address big questions in insect biology.

  • What are the welfare concerns of farmed insects?
  • How does the nervous system change in response to cognitive demands or allometric constraints?
  • Can insects feel pain?

She earned her PhD in Biology and MS in Education from Drexel University in 2022. She currently teaches Cell Biology using a mixture of lecture and active learning techniques and will be developing the university's first-ever entomology course. Her teaching is strongly influenced by the Universal Design for Learning framework. Barrett also collaborates regularly with ethicists and philosophers in her research program; she also has a significant interest in incorporating the development of ethical thinking skills into the STEM classroom.
